Wendy’s Baconator

At one point in time, the Wendy’s Baconator would have been a sandwich I would have had at least once a week. Nowadays, it’s not something I would ever really try if it wasn’t for this blog, but I wanted to try something a little different. This one goes out to all the discerning carnivores out there. Six pieces of Thick-cut Applewood Smoked Bacon, two 1/4 lb patties, topped off with mayo, ketchup and cheese on a premium toasted bun to  hold the meaty masterpiece together. At 940 calories in this one sandwich, it itself was more than most meals I consume but I was gonna go for it today!

These days, it’s rare anymore that I have any sandwich that doesn’t contain a vegetable of some sort. That was the part to me that was out of my comfort zone. Upon opening the wrapper, it looked like I was holding a heart attack in my hands. The meat was greasy. The bun was even glistening from the wetness of the patties, but it was too late to turn back down. I was in for $9 so I was going to do it. First bite to me, was a very good taste. A good seasoned hamburger patty and that crisp bacon. I didn’t know if I was going to like the mayo/ketchup mixture, but it actually went together well with the sandwich and was actually a nice palate cleanser to the greasiness of the burgers.

After a couple bites , it really started to over take me. The amount of grease on this was almost overbearing, especially paired with deep fried french fries. If I was thinking, I would have paired this with a Caesar salad or something to have something to really cut through the burger. I ate about 2/3rds of the burger and 2/3rds of the fries, and I just had to quit. I got down what I could be it was just too much to do.

A carnivore may think I am crazy but the 1/4 lb single from Wendy’s is definitely more enjoyable to me. These days I’m all about a ratio between meat, buns, and toppings and this one was absolutely short on toppings. It really made me miss a little lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickle that you can take for granted. There was some good taste if you can take the grease, but I don’t see myself ordering this one again any time soon!
