KFC’s take on the $5 box specials come in 5 different varieties: Famous Bowl, 3 Extra Crispy Tenders, Chicken Breast, Pot Pie, or a 2 Piece Drumstick and Thigh. A few of these comes with sides as well but each of these are served with a medium drink and a chocolate chip cookie. A regular Famous Bowl comes with KFC’s creamy mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and bite sized chucks of crispy chicken that are then drizzled with their home-style gravy and topped with a 3 cheese blend. I’m not the biggest gravy eater in the world these days, but when I do I prefer a white county gravy over a brown gravy in most situations so that’s the way I ordered this today.
Service was quick and they didn’t seem to mind my request for white gravy instead of their home-style. This is definitely not a meal for someone who does not like their foods touching each other. It’s everything you would want in a meal but all thrown into the same bowl.
When I got back to my table, I thought they may have been a little heavy-handed on the gravy side. It almost seemed like my corn pieces were floating on top of the gravy.. trying not to sink and stay alive. I would have also preferred a little more chicken but for $5 what can you expect. I will also note that the with the amount of gravy and cheese that was on this. When you started to mix together, the gravy and cheese combined into 1 cheesy gravy substance. I little odd but wasn’t too bad to get over.
It wasn’t the most filling item in the world for being considered a $5 fill up box. I think if it would have came with a biscuit, it would have seemed a lot more like a meal. Overall, a decent bargain for $5 though.
