Can you believe it? I was again conned into yet another horseshoe. Well, conned may not be a good word to describe it. Since my roots are from Central Illinois, conning me into a horseshoe is NOT a hardest thing in the world to do. I had just had one a couple of days ago at Greater Days in Hannibal, MO, but it was lacking compared to what I was used to so it left me wanting more. Today though, I’m back to my roots and trying out a take on a horseshoe from a place in Springfield, IL… The Dublin Pub.
The Dublin Pub knows how to serve up a horseshoe as they have seemingly endless combinations of horseshoes to choose from. Today though, I’m trying this a different way with a horseshoe pizza! The Buffalo Chicken Horseshoe is Dublin Pub’s most popular shoe and they also serve pizza. So why not do a mashup and put your most popular shoe on as a pizza topping? The Buffalo Chicken Horseshoe Pizza contains white cheese sauce, buffalo chicken, and topped with fries and mozzarella cheese. Sounds messy but I can’t wait to try it out!
You can get this pizza in 3 different sizes. A thin crust 9″ for $11.99, a thick crust 12″ for $15.95 or a thin crust 14″ for $16.95. I figured the thin crust was going too thin for my liking so I went with the 12″, even though it was going to be too much food for one sitting. Oh no.. leftover pizza.. what am I going to do with this?? I’ve never had that problem before!
So the Buffalo Chicken Horseshoe pizza arrived and to my surprised, it was nowhere near as messy as I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be like eating a horseshoe with your hands, and I was going to have to have a roll of paper towels to get through this but this was not that case at all. The pizza was perfectly cooked and had a firm but not hard bottom crust that held up nicely to the cheesy toppings. The buffalo chicken pieces were small but plentiful and was spread evenly through the whole pizza. This is was a great ratio’ed pizza that you got a little bit of every thing with every bite AND best of all, it tasted good! The buffalo sauce was not overly spicy but had a strong buffalo taste.
I left the Dublin Pub very satisfied with my decision and with 4 piece of Buffalo Chicken Horseshoe Pizza to have as leftovers! This location and item are a must try!
