After missing breakfast today and then getting a small, crappy lunch, I was at a point by dinner time that I was starving. I’m usually not one to go after a large sandwich like this but there was no holding back today. My extreme and intense hunger led me to step out of the box and try the NEW McDonald’s Grand Mac.
McDonald’s is pretty lackluster when it comes to bringing out new items so getting this chance is something that doesn’t come around too often. McDonald’s though it would be a good idea to update their iconic Big Mac to 2 other versions.. one smaller (Mac Jr), and one larger (Grand Mac) but I have a feeling that this won’t be around long. The Grand Mac at McDonald’s features 1/3 lb of 100% real beef sandwiched between a sesame seed bun. All dressed with special sauce, crisp lettuce, onions, pickles and two slices of American cheese.
It took a pretty long time to get my meal which is usually not the case at your local McDonald’s. When I opened up the box, I was pretty impressed with the size of the sandwich as it did an extremely well job of filling up the entire Grand Mac box. I could tell though that this might potentially end up in a mess though because just getting it out of the box was a challenge as lettuce and sauce was falling off everywhere.
Taste wise, you would think that it would by nearly identical to the original Big Mac, but you are wrong! It’s WAY worse and for multiple reasons! First off, the sandwich balance is off by having 2 pieces of cheese places on top of one another. With this thickness of cheese, it was NOT melting and was pretty gross. If you are going to put 2 pieces of cheese on a sandwich and you have 2 patties, do us a favor and divide them up. Put one piece on each patty so there isn’t a thick blob of unmelted cheese.
Secondly, is the amount of sauce on this sandwich. These patties and buns were slip sliding around and by the time I got to the end of it, I took the sandwich apart and ate what I wanted of it deconstructed. For as hungry as I was going in, the McDonald’s Grand Mac was a huge disappointment and made me wish I would have ordered something else.
The one positive of the sandwich I’ll speak of was the price as a large sandwich came in a meal combo for under 7 bucks. That’s pretty impressive these days. As they say though, you get what you pay for. I would have been much happier with a Sausage Egg McMuffin, a McChicken and a hash brown and would have paid $2 less.
Huge disappointment McDonald’s! You could have done better than this!
