Dairy Queen has expanded their DQ Bakes Artisan-style Sandwich menu with the introduction of the new Kansas City BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. Pulled Pork is not an item that I would expect to see on their menu but why wouldn’t I give it a shot? The Kansas City Pulled Pork Sandwich features slow cooked pulled pork topped with Kansas City style BBQ sauce, sliced onions, and pickles served hot from the oven on a warm, soft artisan-style pretzel roll.
The sandwich was loaded with BBQ and I could tell this was going to be a messy experience. Upon opening the sandwich up, There was an entire slab of onion on there. I expected a few sliced rings but not an entire cut. It’s not something I like to do but I had to do some doctoring of this sandwich and take some of those onions off so I wasn’t paying for that the rest of the afternoon.
The Pulled Pork itself didn’t have an over lot of smoke flavor but the BBQ was very smokey. With the overly excessive amount of sauce that you got too, it made up for the meat not having a whole lot of flavor. The pickle and my doctored up amount of onion was a good addition to the sandwich as it gave the sandwich a different bite and texture as your ate it. I was pretty impressed with the Pretzel Bun though and it made me wish it was available on a burger or chicken sandwich and not just the Kansas City Pulled Pork Sandwich.
Overall, it was a good sandwich but they could easily have half the amount of BBQ and I would have still been perfectly content and happy.
